"Marma Chikitsa" is a specialized branch of Ayurveda focused on the use of marma points for healing. Marma points are specific anatomical locations in the body where muscles, veins, ligaments, bones, and joints intersect. These points are considered vital and are believed to be centers of life force (prana).
Marma Chikitsa involves stimulating these points through various techniques to promote physical and mental health. There are 107 primary marma points on the human body, and each point corresponds to specific bodily functions and organ systems.
Identification of Marma Points:
Marmas can be categorized as Mansa-Marma (Muscle), Siramarma (Blood Vessel), Snayu-Marma (Ligament), Sandhi-Marma (Joint) and Asthi Marma (Bone). On the basis of properties, they can be categorized into Saumya, Vayavya, Agneya, and Saumyagneya Marmas. Marmas are situated at Udara (thorax and abdomen), Prishta (back), Shakha (extremities) and Urdhvajatru (neck and head) region.
